Google launched a new service to send free SMS from Gmail acccount.Using this service users can send messages to any mobile number via Gmail Chat.Google free sms service is available to Indian Users along with 51 other countries in Asia, Africa and North America.Users won’t be able to send unlimited messages as it has 50 SMS credits for each user.
How to send SMS from Gmail
- Login to your Gmail account & Click on the Setting option.
- Go to the Labs tab.Now select enable SMS (text messaging) in Chat and press the button Save Changes at the bottom.

- To send SMS all you need is to go to Chat Box which is integrated at the left side of gmail page.Selecting friend will open a new chat window.Now click on more option ,there you will findSend Text (SMS).
Once you click Send Text SMS, you will be prompted to choose a country and enter mobile number. Add a number and then save.
- You are now ready to go!Type a message in the text field , hit Enter.Your message will be sent to the phone number you entered. Start Chatting with your friends now.

SMS credits :
This is a nice way Google has found to encourage the use of this service. Initially, you are given fifty credits, which means you can send 50 messages. For every one message sent, one credit is deducted. But for every message received, say when someone replies to
When the SMS credit goes down to zero, one credit is added after 24 hours. A smart way to increase your credits would be to send a text to your own mobile phone, and then replying to it any number of times to refill your credits! Users can also increase SMS credit, by sending a text message to their own phone and then by replying to that message.
